With the recent challenges surrounding COVID-19, it has made it increasingly difficult for potential nominees to pull together all the materials and information needed for a successful application. Therefore, the Academy has allowed for a grace period to ensure all nominees have a fair right to their nominations.

For Immediate Release – 21st May 2020 (International)

After much consideration, the Academy of International Extended Reality, the not-for-profit body behind the annual VR Awards, has made the decision to extend the deadline for nominations this year until 11:30 PM BST / 3.30 PM PDT on 11 June 2020.

Having received an incredible amount of nominations so far, the Academy is committed to highlighting the resilience and tenacity of the immersive industries continuing their support for an event that recognises the outstanding achievements within VR.

Earlier this year, AIXR also announced that the VR Awards would take place virtually this year, implementing state of the art technology to deliver an experience indistinguishable to the flagship show usually held in Central London. This year, more eyes than ever before will be on the show, as the event’s extensive international audience will be able to connect from across the world in the largest VR Awards yet.

Daniel Colaianni, Chief Executive of AIXR, said “We understand that COVID-19 has had a colossal impact across the immersive industries and our hearts go out to all that have been affected. We want to make the process as smooth as possible, hence we made this decision to ensure that these great projects are still spotlighted through the VR Awards.”

There will be no further extensions to the 11 June deadline, all nominees must start and successfully submit their nomination before the portal closes.
