London UK – 8th March 2022

The Academy of International Extended Reality, AIXR, is officially announcing that the Sixth International VR Awards will be a physical ceremony this year held at ‘8 Northumberland Avenue’ in London, UK on 3 November 2022.

The VR Awards is the largest global awards ceremony for Virtual Reality and this year the VR Awards aims to bring the celebration back to the physical world. With the world opening up again and the leaps and bounds of progress the industry has made, AIXR is proud to return to its roots and bring to its attendees a live show like never before, celebrating all things Virtual Reality and the arrival of the Metaverse.

Combined with year-round international live and virtual initiatives, the VR Awards once again will be bringing together a luxurious black-tie evening to celebrate VR excellence and unique access to the world’s most influential names in immersive technology.

Last year was the 5th anniversary of the VR Awards which saw the very first Metaverse bound celebration in the world. In collaboration with AltspaceVR, the unforgettable ceremony sent the attendees back in time to experience five virtual worlds that represented each momentous year that make up the history of the VR Awards. Tom Furness, the grandfather of Virtual Reality, beamed onto the virtual stage via Microsoft’s holoportation technology for the first time in VR Awards history. With such innovative landmarks from previous years, the Sixth International VR Awards aims to break new ground by expanding the ceremony program and extending further participation opportunities to people attending virtual events too.

“This year I am proud to be bringing the VR Awards back to London as a physical event, building on our success and experience with our fully virtual ceremonies from 2020 & 2021. A return to our roots, we can’t wait to welcome everyone back to celebrate in person and to raise a glass to some of the biggest VR projects from the metaverse!” – Daniel Colaianni, Chief Executive, AIXR
