12 March 2020 – XR Covid-19 Impact update

After recent meetings with Academy members and those who have expressed economic and safety concerns over the recent outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), AIXR is putting forth several active measures in an effort to alleviate undue stress many companies may start to feel over the next few months.

In the next few weeks, after consulting with the Academy’s XR Steering Board, made up of industry giants, AIXR will be announcing several safety briefings that will provide clear guidance and discussion for both industry, but more importantly clients and end users in the enterprise and LBE space.

The first briefing will take place on the 25 March 2020 at 12 pm PDT and will include medical professionals, alongside industry deployment veterans. People wishing to attend can register here.

The Academy also aims to measure the impact that pandemics have on the immersive industries longer term, by partnering with research institutions to track supply-chain and economic changes that Academy members are seeing. This data will be carefully reviewed and published for everyone with no paywalls, in keeping with AIXR’s mission.

Having already released guidelines on safely using VR & AR devices, the next step is to adequately prepare for the clear disruption in day to day operations many of the companies in the space will see, and provide several tools that can be distributed to end users in order to mitigate concerns and myths.

The Academy will also be working to highlight the challenges as well as the opportunities that have now been accelerated, such as virtual meetings, conferences and events. As such, private meetings have been arranged with the leading events in the sector to coordinate a centralised response and to plan accordingly for the next year.
